Stephen Santa is a graduate of the Massachusetts Maritime Academy where he earned a BS degree in Marine Transportation as well as a Merchant Mariners Deck Officer License and was commissioned into the US Navy Reserve. He spent ten years sailing onboard tug and barge units moving refined fuel products throughout the US East Coast handling vessels up to 600ft in length and 7200Horsepower. Eventually he upgraded to a limited tonnage masters license, master of towing, and sailed as a Chief Mate. After obtaining a MS in Transportation Management from the SUNY Maritime College he left the maritime industry to become the first Safety Officer for his family’s fourth generation business, Santa Energy. Stephen built out new safety programs and initiatives from scratch to support the company’s nearly 200 employees. Since then he has moved on to other roles in the business such as General Manager, Facilities Manager, Director of Service Initiatives, and other various roles while maintaining oversight of the safety/risk management programs. Stephen is also an Assistant Fire Chief and EMT for his hometown volunteer fire department, he is a Lieutenant Commander in the Navy Reserve, and in his spare time found the opportunity to hike the entire Appalachian Trail, 2200 Miles from Georgia to Maine.
