Dara grew up on Long Island and went to SUNY Maritime College, graduating with a BS in Marine Operations and a USCG Third Mate’s License. She started her career in the oil industry working as a tankerman on a tug and barge transporting fuel from New York Harbor to Boston, then shifted to working on foreign ships overseeing cargo operations as a Safety Advisor/Marine Technical Representative. This transitioned her into a shore side position as a Safety and Vetting Coordinator for a local Long Island Tug and Barge Company, overseeing safety inspections for the fleet of vessels. Soon after she relocated to an oil storage terminal on the East end of Long Island where she worked her way from Terminal Operator up to Terminal Manager over her 7 years at the facility. Dara coordinated all day to day operations, specializing in the loading rack operations, tank farm storage, and marine operations.
